One of Lane Kiffin’s top LSU Tigers assistant coaches may not end up in Baton Rouge as expected.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan suggested on Sunday that LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr, who is also coaching the Ole Miss Rebels in the College Football Playoff, could be an option to join the New York Giants’ staff whenever the franchise hires a new head coach.

Weis coached Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss, so the connection makes sense.

This scenario would depend on who the Giants hire as their head coach. I don’t think Weis is leaving LSU just to work for just any head coach.

Fortunately for the Tigers, Kiffin is an offensive mastermind. Losing Weis wouldn’t be ideal, but it’s something that’s going to happen eventually. Kiffin, however, shouldn’t have any issues finding a replacement if Weis leaves for the NFL.

Update:

NFL insider Albert Breer notes that the Weis family has a longstanding connection to Giants ownership.
