Sooners land a transfer portal tight end who has one of the more unique connections to OU that you will find
The Sooners needed to grab a tight end in the transfer portal.
The Oklahoma Sooners have landed another tight end commitment, this time from star OU women’s basketball player Ragan Beers’ brother, Rocky Beers. Rocky played tight end at Colorado State, and last season, many thought he might transfer to Oklahoma because of his sister’s connection to the program. Now he has.
Sooners are getting a good tight end in Beers
Beers played for Air Force from 2021 to 2022. Then transferred to Florida International, where he played for two seasons. Last year, he played at Colorado State and still has one year of eligibility left. For that last season, he’ll play on a team with an opportunity to win a championship and improve his draft stock.
Beers has 564 career receiving yards and nine career receiving touchdowns. Those stats cover two seasons; a handful of the others he didn’t play due to injury or other reasons.
However, his work in the passing game isn’t the most impressive part, though it’s not too shabby. Beers is a good run blocker, an area that was the tight ends’ group’s poorest in some time this season. Either the tight end on the field was a good run blocker or a good pass catcher, not both.
His run blocking is what will likely get him on the field the most. Beers won’t be looked at as a starting tight end, but surely OU will allow him to compete for the job. If Florida transfer Hayden Hansen wins out in camp, Beers is likely the TE2 for a team that may run more 12 personnel in 2026 than it did in 2025, since Ben Arbuckle will be working with better tight ends.
Jaren Kanak’s presence in the passing game will be missed, but so far, the Sooners are off to a good start recruiting TEs in the transfer portal.
