Newest transfer portal addition for Oklahoma Sooners is exactly what the doctor ordered to help John Mateer, Sooners’ offense next season
The Oklahoma Sooners adding wide receiver Trell Harris out of the transfer portal is a seamless fit for the offense next season.
The Oklahoma Sooners have gotten off to a fast start in the transfer portal, lining up several visits from talented playmakers all across the country on both sides of the ball.
In an effort to fuel another College Football Playoff run, they’ve been focusing on building around quarterback John Mateer, aiming at bolstering their skill position talent and the depth along the offensive line.
On Monday morning, they added perhaps the biggest boost for their offense next season and added what could be Mateer’s favorite target in 2026.
Trell Harris Joins the Oklahoma Sooners
Last season, part of what plagued the Sooners’ offense was how defenses played Oklahoma’s personnel. Teams would load the box and cloud coverage to one side, daring the Sooners to try and win one-on-one elsewhere, and quite simply, they didn’t have the dudes at wide receiver to do that.
Adding Harris practically forces teams to back off of that just by his presence, especially alongside a player like Isaiah Sategna. All throughout his film with the Cavaliers, Harris proved to be a dangerous deep threat with terrific vertical speed to blow past defenders one-on-one.
Harris is significantly better at the catch point than anyone the Sooners had at wide receiver this season as well, and at 6’0, 200-pounds, he brings some much-needed size to that room. Throughout his time at Virginia, he also demonstrated some outstanding tracking and body control to reel in inaccurate throws along the season, and was a significantly more refined route-runner than what Oklahoma boasted in 2025.
After my initial viewing, I comp’d Trell Harris to former Auburn Tiger and current New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton, and I feel confident in that type of role and impact for the former All-ACC wide receiver. This is a huge win for the Sooners in 2026.
