The Oklahoma Sooners are losing players left and right in the transfer portal. They’re also gaining some pretty good ones, too. That’s how the portal goes: except for a few of the guys OU has lost, they’re going to a coach and program that OU and its fan base respect.

First, it was wide receiver Zion Ragins to the Mississippi State Bulldogs; now it’s former OU offensive lineman Isaiah Autry-Dent transferring to MSU.

Mississippi State’s head coach is Jeff Lebby, the former Sooners offensive coordinator. Some of the players who transferred from OU to MSU are those he recruited while at OU. So, the reunion makes a ton of sense. The Sooners have already, in a way, replaced him with depth from the transfer portal.

OU added former Western Kentucky OL Caleb Nitta and former Georgia Tech OL Peyton Joseph as their two depth guys. They also grabbed E’Marion Harris from Arkansas to potentially be their next starting right tackle.

OU will be just fine on the offensive line. But how will Autry-Dent be at MSU? A to Z Sports College Football Analyst Adam Holt broke that down.

Former Sooners OL Isaiah Autry-Dent’s fit with Mississippi State

Autry-Dent certainly has a route to early and often playing time in Starkville. The Bulldogs’ offensive line was among the worst in the SEC last season, and multiple starting pieces from that unit are exiting, including top tackle Albert Reese (NFL Draft). The young lineman can compete for a starting job at OT, potentially alongside fellow transfers DJ Chester (LSU) and Jaelyn Matthews (FSU).

The returning precedent at the position is nearly nonexistent, as Mississippi State lacks experience following the transfer departure of Jimothy Lewis and other graduates. We’ll see how quickly the Mississippi kid can get involved and prove himself as a contributor for the Bulldogs’ OL.
