Sooners are predicted to land another elite player for their 2027 class, who could have been greatly used in the 2026 class
The Sooners like Jaylen Scott a lot.
Relationships drive college football, especially in both high school and transfer portal recruiting. No team is demonstrating this more than the Oklahoma Sooners right now.
OU has the No. 3 recruiting class in 2027, and it could even end up finishing as the best class in the country come next year’s National Signing Day. We know more players will be added, as the Sooners are already trying to add another four-star safety, Jaylen Scott. OU has established a great connection with him, especially with safeties coach Brandon Hall. Now, the Sooners are predicted to land him.
Sooners 2027 class could have what the 2026 class needed
According to Chad Simmons of Rivals, the Sooners have the strongest chances of landing Scott, the Mobile, Alabama product. Venables, Hall, and defensive line coach Todd Bates were just down there visiting with Scott, along with 2027 quarterback Jameson Roberts, just before getting their work kicked off at the Senior Bowl. Scott would be a great addition to the Sooners’ 2027 class.
If OU lands Scott, they will have an elite, blue-chip safety and a player who could play the Cheetah role Oklahoma needs in 2026. In the incoming freshman class, the Sooners only signed two safeties in Markel Ford, who’s a three-star that’s a bit undersized, and Jacob Curry, a three-star who maybe didn’t play the best competition in high school.
Both guys could be stars in their freshman years, just like we saw from guys like Courtland Guillory. However, the depth in the secondary, particularly at safety and cornerback, is not good for 2026. Now, they could get that situated and handled, as they did last season with a few positions. However, Scott would have been nice to have in 2026.
The moment that really put Scott onto OU was their game against the Michigan Wolverines. That atmosphere and winning over another blue-blood team are really what made Scott see that OU could be a place he could see himself playing.
