Sooners fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about being in one 2027 four-star player’s top-eight schools
The Sooners won’t land Montre Jackson.
The Oklahoma Sooners are tied to 2027 four-star cornerback Montre Jackson, but expectations for him should be tempered.
Sooners may lose out on 2027 four-star CB Montre Jackson
The Sooners are in Jackson’s top eight, along with the Texas Longhorns, Tennessee Volunteers, Ole Miss Rebels, and Texas A&M Aggies. OU already has two cornerbacks committed in Mikyal Davis and Mikhail McCreary, along with the 2026 freshman, Derrick Johnson. The Oklahoma Sooners are also favored to land 2027 four-star safety Jaylen Scott.
The Sooners also have predictions of landing Gabriel Osborne Jr. and JuJu Johnson. On3 also has CBs Taelyn Mayo, Dhillon McGee, Trenton Blaylock, and Bryson Brown, all with OU as the highest percentage of interest from those players. That doesn’t mean all those will go to OU, but there’s a chance some of them do.
The main takeaway: Jackson is a long shot for Oklahoma despite their strong recruiting position.
Oklahoma has been strong in recruiting recently, but with every success comes a few misses. Like all teams, OU has missed before, and Jackson could be next. Sometimes depth at the position causes these outcomes.
As of right now, On3 has Jackson as likely to go to Texas. OU seems to be in second place with SMU in third. Jackson is the No. 181 player in the country, the No. 19 CB, and the No. 25 player in Texas.
He’s a great player who’s fast and a great tackler. Compared to other Sooners targets, he stands out for his speed and tackling, but some of the other players the Sooners have offered may possess stronger coverage skills or size.
Then again, these are high school kids who haven’t yet gotten into a college football training program. OU doesn’t have an issue recruiting and bringing in elite CB talent, although development may be a different story now that CB coach Jay Valai is heading to the Buffalo Bills.
