The Ohio State Buckeyes made a big offseason move to bring in Arthur Smith from the NFL to be the offensive coordinator

Replacing Brian Hartline was a major point of emphasis for the Buckeyes, and it was something Ohio State was always going to do at some point. It was more of a matter of when.

Hartline as offensive coordinator didn’t work out to its fullest ability. Things went very well the year prior with Chip Kelly calling plays, and the Buckeyes hope to get back to that.

2027 QB Brady Edmunds comments on the addition of Arthur Smith to Ohio State

Adding Smith didn’t only have an impact on the field, but it also had an impact on the recruiting trail. Even if Smith isn’t an active recruiter for the Buckeyes, having him on staff is positive for recruiting.

“Everybody preaches that Ohio State is going to get you to the NFL,” Edmunds said via Cleveland.com. “Well, now you got dudes that just came out of coaching in the NFL. So not only guys that can get you there, but you got dudes that were just there so you’re getting taught that kind of level of football knowledge and being held to that level as an 18, 19, 20-year-old before you’re in the NFL. It’s a huge addition.”

Edmunds is the 2027 quarterback for the Buckeyes and he’ll be a freshman in Columbus next season. The California product has been committed to Ohio State since Dec. 2024. According to 247sports Composite, Edmunds is the No. 11 quarterback and No. 141 player nationally.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound quarterback is the No. 11-rated player in the state of California. Edmunds has already had three offensive coordinators at Ohio State to build a relationship with since he’s been committed. With Smith coming over from the NFL, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he were only around a year as well.

Head coach Ryan Day bringing in NFL coaches is having a positive impact on players on the team and others who will soon be on the team.

As far as Edmunds goes, he’s been solid to his commitment since he chose to attend Ohio State. The California quarterback is already a key recruiter for the Buckeyes in 2027.
