The Washington Commanders need to be aggressive this offseason and finally go all-in on building around Jayden Daniels.

Last offseason, general manager Adam Peters ignored the EDGE position after being linked to every major name that became available, and this year has to be different. The Commanders have plenty of salary cap space to make a big splash, especially after releasing Marshon Lattimore.

Their biggest hurdle will be the lack of draft capital, but that hasn’t stopped Las Vegas from listing the Commanders as the top team to land All-Pro EDGE Maxx Crosby this offseason.

The Commanders are listed with the highest odds of landing All-Pro Maxx Crosby

The Commanders need to make a splash this offseason, and BetOnline has them as the top team to trade for Crosby, which would be the biggest splash of the NFL offseason at 3/1 odds.

There’s no doubt the Commanders should be linked to Crosby with their glaring need at EDGE, but they may not be in a position to do so with their lack of draft capital. Peters has been very vocal about adding an EDGE this offseason, and a Crosby trade is now widely expected around the NFL, with a trade happening as soon as this week, according to Albert Breer.

Even with the Commanders having the highest odds to make a trade happen, should they even consider it?

Should the Commanders trade for Maxx Crosby?

The biggest argument against trading for Crosby will be the lack of draft capital once again, with just six picks in 2026. Peters already traded a haul for Lattimore and Laremy Tunsil in back-to-back offseasons, so should he do it again? The Commanders do have the No. 7 overall pick in the draft, which could be high enough for the Las Vegas Raiders to trade Crosby for if they add someone like DT Daron Payne.

The Commanders could also elect to trade picks from the 2027 NFL Draft and keep their picks this offseason, but the 2027 draft is expected to be the strongest in a long time. Crosby’s contract is very tradeable as well, and the Commanders would only pay $30.7 million in 2026, which is the highest cap hit over the next four years.

I’m not saying the Commanders should absolutely do it, but Crosby is an elite talent who turns 29 this offseason, and these kinds of players don’t come around often. You know what you’re getting in Crosby, while an EDGE at the No. 7 overall pick could be a massive unknown who doesn’t produce right away.
