Archbishop Hoban linebacker Brayton Feister celebrates after the Knights’ win over Walsh Jesuit, Sept. 26, 2025.

Notre Dame football is breaking in Brian Jean-Mary as their new linebacker coach this offseason, known as a tremendous coach and recruiter during the course of his career. We should see the recruiting impact of Jean-Mary very early on in his Fighting Irish career in the 2027 recruiting class, and the board is already morphing before our eyes. We will know very soon who the key targets are on the board, and whether head coach Marcus Freeman and Co. can close the deal.

One linebacker that they have liked quite a bit is Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban star linebacker Brayton Feister, a player who was offered this offseason. There were strong vibes early on, but it does seem that Notre Dame is beginning to fade. Steve Wiltfong from the Rivals network logged an expert prediction for the Oregon Ducks to land Feister in the end.

It is early on in the process with Jean-Mary as a recruiter, so nobody should be worried right now. His resume as a recruiter would certainly indicate that the 2027 Fighting Irish class should be in a strong place moving forward. That is true whether Notre Dame rebounds with Feister or not. He is a talented player, but there is plenty of time for the Irish to recover, especially with Amarri Irvin already being committed in the class.

Brayton Feister’s recruiting background

Feister is considered to be a consensus four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, the Ohio native is currently rated as the No. 168 overall player, the No. 8 athlete, and the No. 4 player from the state of Ohio for the 2027 recruiting class. Rivals is the highest on Feister right now, sitting as the No. 159 overall player in the class currently.

Even before Feister saw an uptick in his rankings, several of the top programs in all of college football were pursuing him. Some of his top offers currently include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, USC, Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky, Missouri, Pitt, Boston College, Arizona State, Washington, Wisconsin, West Virginia, SMU, Cincinnati, Maryland, Cal, UCLA, and Purdue, among several others.

As a junior in 2025 for Archbishop Hoban, Feister put together a dominant campaign. In 12 games, the 6-3, 230-pound athlete managed to collect 133 total tackles, 39 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions. On offense, Feister also rushed for 1,098 yards and 17 touchdowns on just 116 carries, an average of 9.5 yards per carry. This is a dynamic two-way athlete with outstanding overall upside.
