Expert’s latest NFL mock draft added more fuel to fire for Commanders landing top prospect with No. 7 overall pick
The Commanders are becoming the top team to land arguably the best player in the 2026 NFL Draft with the No. 7 overall pick.
The Washington Commanders are one month away from being on the clock with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and they’ll have plenty of options to choose from.
Every year, one prospect picks up steam as we get closer to the draft, just like Jayden Daniels did in 2024. Having the No. 7 overall pick is less predictable with uncertainty about how the draft board will fall, but one prospect is picking up a lot of steam for the Commanders.
The latest 2026 NFL mock draft from Field Yates just added more fuel to the fire for the Commanders landing a surprise with the No. 7 overall pick.
Field Yates’ latest 2026 NFL mock draft has the Commanders taking RB Jeremiyah Love
Mock drafts are flying off the shelves with the NFL Draft now under one month away, and teams will have a clearer picture of who is likely to be taken by each team. The Commanders can take many different approaches with WR and CB at the top of the list of their needs, but one prospect is gaining a ton of steam as their pick with the No. 7 overall pick.
ESPN’s Field Yates just dropped his latest NFL mock draft, and he has the Commanders taking RB Jeremiyah Love in the first round.
This is the second time this week we’ve seen the Commanders linked to Love, as NFL insider Adam Schefter said yesterday that they are, in fact, the team to watch for the dynamic running back. Love has been projected to go No. 4 overall to the Tennessee Titans for the last few weeks, but now it seems like he won’t go in the top-5, and the Commanders are the top team to take him.
How the rest of the NFL board fell in Field Yates’ mock draft
Yates had David Bailey, Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles, Caleb Downs, and Carnell Tate off the board before the Commanders, so Love and Mansoor Delane would be the two best options at No. 7 overall. Rueben Bain Jr and Jordyn Tyson were next off the board, and neither should be the Commanders’ pick if this is how the board fell.
The Commanders could take a WR or CB with the No. 71 overall pick in the third round, so taking Love in the first round should be a true option. They need a playmaker for Jayden Daniels, and Love is the best RB prospect over the last few years, and he’d also open the receiving game up with his route-running.
Love is gaining way too much steam to ignore this week, and now we’ll have to see if anything changes in the final month leading up to the NFL Draft, and if the Commanders take him in the first round.
