3 Ohio State football players to watch on offense in Saturday’s spring game including a rising freshman
Ohio State Buckeyes will play their spring game on Saturday in front of tens of thousands of fans in Columbus. Here’s a few players on offense to watch.
We’re a couple of days away from the spring game for the Ohio State Buckeyes an it’ll wrap up multiple weeks of spring practices in Columbus. We will get our first look at the 2026 Ohio State football team in a scrimmage setting.
Head coach Ryan Day has already said the Buckeyes will go live with tackling outside of a couple of series. I don’t expect we’ll see Jeremiah Smith getting tackled, so starters will likely be wrapping up. After the starters exit, it should be live and things will get more interesting.
Heading into Saturday’s scrimmage, I wanted to highlight three players I’ll be keeping an eye on.
QB Tavien St. Clair
We’re going to get an extended look at the passing game on Saturday with four running backs banged up. I’ll be keeping an eye on the backup quarterback and former five-star recruit St. Clair. Ohio State was lucky to have St. Clair right in Ohio, and it didn’t take much to land one of the best signal callers in the class of 2025. St. Clair was the No. 3 quarterback last season and played in just one game with two passing attempts.
St. Clair is the future starting quarterback in Columbus after the 2026 season and he’s a play away from playing now. The redshirt freshman looks the part physically of a future pro at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds. A positive showing would excite the fanbase.
WR Brock Boyd
Coming into the spring it was Chris Henry Jr. as the freshman wideout everyone is talking about for the Ohio State football program. While Henry has a bright future ahead of him, it’s been Boyd getting a lot of the chatter. Boyd is making his three-star rating out of Southlake Carroll (TX) look like a real joke to this point. Boyd’s speed, route running ability, and football IQ which are ahead of his age have already been standing out. A big spring game would add to the hype around the freshman.
No one had Boyd playing Year 1 at Ohio State and if they say they did, they’re lying. The freshman wideout has turned heads and has a chance to continue doing so.
OL Ian Moore
Ohio State will have both starting tackles from last season out for the spring game with Austin Siereveld and Phillip Daniels both recovering from small procedures. Third-year offensive tackle Moore has been filling in at left tackle, and he has a chance to stick there in 2026. There’s a real chance the Buckeyes move Siereveld back inside to his natural spot at guard. Moore needs to look the part in a more game-like environment in Saturday’s spring game. Carrying momentum into summer workouts and the fall is key here.
