Earlier in the month, Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Chris Wagner granted a preliminary injunction allowing 24 men’s and women’s basketball players to seek a fifth season under the NCAA’s new age-based eligibility model. The ruling has now opened others to try to do the same, including a former Texas offensive lineman.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Cole Hutson filed an age-based eligibility lawsuit against the NCAA asking for a fifth year for the 2026-2027 college football season. Hutson filed the lawsuit in Travis County, Texas. The former Longhorn was undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft and was a Dallas Cowboys rookie minicamp invite.
Texas’ offensive line is one question mark they have, and it’s now possible they get a player back with 23 starts under his belt with time spent at guard and center.
The new five-for-five rule in terms of eligibility has some pushback from athletes like Hutson who fall under a certain umbrella. Now, it’s worth monitoring if Arch Manning will have another potential piece added up front to protect him against the Buckeye. It’ll all depend on the ruling.
