Amid all of the issues that the NCAA is having, too many coaches are feeding into it, instead of embracing the positives.
SEC Media Days are taking place in Tampa, Florida this week, and we get to hear from the head coaches in a press conference setting for the first time since spring practice was done.
One of the biggest talking points throughout the week has been the SEC schedule. Some of it was rooted in the SEC splitting off from the NCAA in lieu of the current issues with college football. It’s been controversial, along with the addition of a ninth game on the conference schedule. That adjustment is going to be the biggest aspect of the 2026 season, especially with how many teams make the College Football Playoff.
Jon Sumrall has explosive comment on new schedule
When asked about the new schedule format in the SEC, Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall has an interesting viewpoint, mainly due to him coming into the program this year.
Makes sense, right? Sumrall himself is a no-nonsense coach who doesn’t make excuses, but rather works toward solutions and adapting to the situation in front of you. No talk about splitting off from the NCAA to create their own league, no complaining about playing nine conference games, just happy to be a head coach and adapts to whatever situation is in front of him.
It’s a lot different than Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart, who has been very vocal about how changes need to be made.
It’s more and more evident that the Gators have found the right guy to lead the program. It’s not about whining about where you are, but rather embracing the challenge that is leading a premier college football program.
There is a reason why the excitement in Gainesville is so strong.
