Ohio State football just received the clarity they needed a day after losing out on 5-star David Gabriel Georges
Wednesday was tough for Ohio State when they lost its top target to Tennessee. Thursday has now brought the Buckeyes some good news.
Ohio State football recruiting got a boost on Wednesday when class of 2027 quarterback Brady Edmunds shut down his recruitment and reaffirmed his commitment to the Buckeyes. The news comes just one day after Ohio State lost out on 5-star running back David Gabriel Georges, giving the program some much-needed positive momentum on the recruiting trail.
Edmonds’ commitment wavered before solidifying
Edmunds, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound quarterback, has been committed to Ohio State since December of 2024 as an early pledge. The commitment appeared shaky in recent months, though, as Ohio State was exploring the possibility of adding a second quarterback to the class.
When the Buckeyes started looking around, Edmunds did the same. The UCLA Bruins emerged as a legitimate contender to flip Edmonds from Ohio State, and the quarterback took an official visit to Westwood to see what UCLA had to offer. Following that trip, Edmunds took his official visit to Columbus on June 19 and spent the following weeks weighing his options.
The decision came down to staying with Ohio State or flipping to UCLA. Hayes Fawcett of Rivals reported that Edmonds has shut down his recruitment and will stay solid with the Buckeyes.
Why this matters for Ohio State’s class of 2027
This is a recruiting win for Ohio State. The Buckeyes needed a quarterback in the class of 2027, and if Edmunds had ended up out of the picture, it would have been tough to find someone equal to or better than what he brings to the table at this stage of the cycle.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Edmunds is the 243rd-ranked national player and the No. 20 quarterback in the class of 2027. He gives Ohio State a needed answer at the position and provides stability in a class that took a hit with the Gabriel Georges loss.
Ohio State’s class of 2027 still stands at 18 commitments. Losing Gabriel Georges stung, but keeping Edmunds in the fold soft win to follow. Now, we wait to see how the Buckeyes finish the class.
