Oklahoma Sooners are set to start a trend with their 2028 recruiting class that they had in the 2027 cycle
The Oklahoma Sooners are ready to get their 2028 recruiting class started with an elite in-state trend set by Kamieon Compton-Nero.
The Oklahoma Sooners are building momentum in their 2028 recruiting class, and the latest prediction suggests they could be on the verge of adding one of the top players in the country.
Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman has projected four-star athlete Kamieon Compton-Nero, the No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma, to land with the Sooners. Compton-Nero is a 6’3, 190-pound prospect out of Owasso with a 92.53 composite rating on Rivals. He ranks as the No. 2 athlete in the country and a top-40 overall player nationally.
Oklahoma currently holds an 82.8% prediction to land Compton-Nero, with Spiegelman’s individual confidence at 65%. The Sooners’ proximity to Owasso has played a role in this recruitment. Compton-Nero has taken five visits to Oklahoma, more than any other school on his list. His other top options include Ole Miss (four visits), Arkansas (three visits), SMU (two visits), Arizona State (one visit), and Texas A&M (one visit).
Sooners’ 2028 class is small but growing
Right now, Oklahoma has just one commit in the 2028 recruiting class: quarterback Trey Tagliaferri, who flipped from Notre Dame. That number may seem low, but 2028 National Signing Day is a long way off, and the Sooners have been aggressive in sending out offers across the board.
The coaching staff has already extended offers to two other four-star athletes in the 2028 class. On the offensive side, Oklahoma has been active pursuing playmakers at wide receiver. One name to watch there is Carson LaCombe, the four-star wideout out of San Antonio, Texas, whom the Sooners have a projection to land as well.
Landing Compton-Nero would continue a significant trend
Adding Compton-Nero would build on something the Sooners established with their 2027 recruiting class. Oklahoma locked down several elite in-state prospects in that cycle, including Cooper Hackett, Kaeden Penny, and others. Keeping the best talent in the state has been a priority, and winning this recruitment would signal that the trend is holding strong into 2028.
That said, this recruitment could still take time. These are young prospects making life-altering decisions, and nothing is guaranteed until pen hits paper. Even with the prediction in Oklahoma’s favor, Ole Miss and Arkansas have both invested significant time in Compton-Nero’s recruitment, and Alabama and SMU remain in the mix.
If Compton-Nero does end up committing, it would give the Sooners a significant anchor for 2028 and reinforce that the state’s top talent is staying home.
