A former LSU Tigers assistant coach is reportedly joining the Florida Gators’ coaching staff.
A former LSU Tigers assistant coach who just can’t seem to give up football is reportedly set to join a top SEC rival.
According to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Florida Gators are planning to hire former LSU special teams coach Greg McMahon.
McMahon, who turned 66 this past January, served as an assistant at LSU from 2017 to 2021. He retired in 2021 following the hire of Brian Kelly at LSU.
The Illinois native, however, didn’t stay retired for long as he joined the Houston Gamblers (USFL) coaching staff in early 2022.
McMahon retired again following the 2024 season — after two years at Tulane — but it sounds like he still has the itch to coach.
According to 247Sports, McMahon will serve as a special teams analyst for the Gators.
McMahon coached under new Florida head coach Jon Sumrall at Tulane in 2024.
