The Alabama Crimson Tide just lost a commitment from 2028 4-star recruit Anthony Blalock Jr., who officially decommitted from the program. The news out of Tuscaloosa isn’t exactly shocking, though, when you consider how busy his upcoming visit schedule had become.
One look at Blalock’s upcoming visit schedule tells you everything you need to know about why this happened. He already visited Florida and Texas A&M. He has trips lined up to Tennessee, Penn State, Texas Tech, and Ole Miss. Plenty of programs are going after this kid, and for good reason. He’s going to be one of the better prospects in the entire 2028 class.
Blalock had been committed to Alabama since July, but the truth is this decommitment, while a loss, was far from a blindside.
Alabama still holds the No. 1 spot in the 2028 class
The good news for the Crimson Tide is that even after losing Blalock, they still rank No. 1 in the country for the class of 2028 with five hard commits remaining. That context matters.
I understand that the 2027 class needs to come first, and in all honesty, that class has been pretty shallow for Alabama outside of the quarterback position. But the Crimson Tide have been very strategic with what they’re trying to build across both cycles.
