The Alabama Crimson Tide is taking the 2027 recruiting cycle slowly for various reasons. The foremost point is that Alabama feels good about its 2025 and 2026 classes, and it has been picky about who it will take in the portal.

But that hasn’t stopped Alabama from taking big swings. It started with Trent Seaborn, was followed by Elijah Haven, and most recently, RB Nigel Newkirk. Well, Alabama just fouled down at the latter position.

Alabama 2027 recruiting class

  • QB Elijah Haven (5-star)
  • LB Kenneth Simon II (4-star)
  • QB Trent Seaborn (4-star)
  • RB Nigel Newkirk (4-star)
  • DL Avrian “AJ” Pauley (3-star)
  • TE Michael Nnabuife (3-star)
  • TE Oakley Keegan (3-star)
  • Kicker Luke Cody
  • RB Tai Phillips (3-star)

Alabama receives commitment from 3-star RB Tai Phillips

The Phillips commitment comes on the heels of the second official visit weekend of the summer, where he, along with other high-profile recruits, was in Tuscaloosa to learn more about the institution and program.

Phillips hails from North Carolina, but he has transferred to Irmo High School in Columbia, South Carolina, ahead of his senior season. Back in Fayetteville, he ran for 919 yards and 12 touchdowns in 7 games. The three-star marks the latest of nine total commitments for the 2027 class and marks a key position group that Alabama has been focusing on

Tai Phillips is the latest in line of backs that Alabama is targeting in 2027 class

“Running back is one of the biggest points of emphasis for Alabama in the cycle. Columbia (SC) Irmo’s Tai Phillips is a top-of-the-board prospect and I like where the Crimson Tide stand. After talking to a source with knowledge of the recruitment over the weekend I predict he’ll land in Tuscaloosa unless Florida State is able to change the narrative of that one.” – Steven Wiltfong, On3

Well, Florida State was unable to change the narrative, nor was any other school that offered Phillips, for that matter, and now Alabama is stacking commitments after a slow start.
