Baylor released its throwback uniforms for the upcoming matchup against Colorado, and someone cooked here. These are easily a 9/10 design, maybe even a perfect 10/10, and they deserve more than just a single-game showcase against the Buffaloes.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the official announcement from the program from last week and we seriously need to talk about these unis as one the best we’ll see in all of college football this upcoming season.

The problem with perfection on a part-time basis

Here’s my one problem with these throwbacks: they’re not the primary uniforms. It’s so frustrating when a team has the perfect look that should be worn every single week and chooses not to. There’s nothing wrong with Baylor’s current uniforms. They’re fine. But “fine” is not what you should settle for when the alternative is this good.

These throwbacks blend the program’s history with real personality, and that’s something college football desperately needs right now. So many programs have gone to this minimalistic approach that strips away all character. Everything looks clean, sure, but clean and forgettable is not the same as clean and iconic.

Baylor nailed the balance here. The throwbacks have identity. They have soul. They tell you exactly who you’re watching without sacrificing a modern edge.

I might be making too big a deal out of a one-game uniform. But I’ve been beating this drum for years as a Seahawks fan. Seattle’s throwback uniforms are perfect for what they should be wearing every single week. The current ones are fine. But when you have the better option sitting right there, just go with it.

I guarantee someone is going to say, “Well, they’re special because they only show up once a season.” I think Baylor’s throwbacks are better than that. They transcend the novelty factor. A uniform this good shouldn’t be treated like a holiday sweater you pull out of the closet once a year.

Baylor should make these the full-time look. The Bears have something special with this design, and limiting it to a single game against Colorado is a waste. If the goal of a uniform is to represent the program, connect to the history, and look pretty good doing it, these throwbacks check every single box. Wear them every week.
