Elite wide receiver recruit just proved that the Oklahoma Sooners are recruiting the right way in the NIL era
The Oklahoma Sooners have the No. 1 class in the 2027 recruiting cycle for a reason, and they’re showing that, but with a 2028 recruit.
The Oklahoma Sooners have the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2027 cycle for a reason: They do things the right way. That’s showing to stand true with their 2028 recruiting tactics as well.
The new NIL era can be tricky. Coaches of other programs are always trying to buy players, whether that’s through the transfer portal or high school recruiting. That’s certainly the way it feels in today’s era of college football. However, the Sooners are not taking that approach. They aren’t buying players—they’re really investing in the person. And, some of the recruits have felt that, even one in the 2028 recruiting class who’s yet to commit.
“Yes, sir; that was big time,” 2028 WR Richmond-McDavis told SoonerScoop. “I like who he [WR coach Emmett Jones] is as a person; he was pretty straight up and straightforward. I felt like he wasn’t a car salesman, and he was actually true to his words. My teammate, Malahn Green, has been down there. He’s said some good things about [OU]. But I ain’t never been up there.”
This approach, a life approach that shows you actually care about the kids and not the money or return on investment, while that is important, is working for the Sooners. Hopefully, they continue that to land Richmond-McDavis.
Who is 2028 WR Ryan Richmond-McDavis?
Richmond-McDavis is a four-star wide receiver in the 2028 recruiting class. He could find himself a near five-star by the time he gets on campus if he continues to develop and improve at his current rate. He’s currently the No. 2 player in Missouri and a top 180 player in the entire country.
Richmond-McDavis has offers from Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, Missouri, Indiana, Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Louisville. The Sooners are trying to get ahead of some of the bigger teams in building that relationship. Richmond-McDavis could become a very coveted player very soon.
