4 Gators offensive stats that highlight Jon Sumrall’s impressive turnaround in Florida, including a national championship comparison
The Florida Gators made a statement in The Swamp against the Ole Miss Rebels, and Buster Faulkner’s offense has been the catalyst.
The Florida Gators have been awoken from their slumber and announced themselves to the nation with a 52-28 win over the Ole Miss Rebels. Head coach Jon Sumrall made it clear that they aren’t sleeping anymore, but aren’t 100% awake just yet.
“It’s not asleep, but it ain’t fully awake yet. You know, like it’s it’s it’s being kind of stirred up a little bit, so we’re going to get there. But yeah, it’s it’s coming. Like I promise you, I didn’t come here for us to be average, and we’re going to work tirelessly- coaches, players, everybody to put a product on the field we can all be proud of,” said Sumrall after the game.
The biggest reason for their success is simple: Buster Faulkner’s offense. They have been the catalyst behind everything. The numbers only strengthen that point.

Through the first four games of the season, the Gators already have three instances of 50+ points scored, and a per game average of 53.5 points. At this rate, they will have scored more than the 2025 Gators after three quarters against Missouri on Saturday.
This offense is cooking on every level, from Aaron Philo attacking vertically down the field to all elements of the running game cooking no matter who is running the ball, including a whopping 0.36 EPA/rush against the Rebels on Saturday.

We know that the Gators’ offense is scoring points at a historic pace, but it’s not just about the total number of points; it’s about matching how crazy the Steve Spurrier offenses were. Danny Wuerffel was one of the more prolific passing quarterbacks of the 20th century. He also was the last quarterback to put up 50+ points against a top-five team.
That is exactly what Philo and the Gators did on Saturday. They put up 52 points on the No. 4 ranked Rebels, which was the first time the Gators had done that since the 1996 national champion Gators did against Florida State. Now, that was in the Sugar Bowl, which in itself was impressive, but that game sealed the first-ever national championship for the Gators. Saturday’s win isn’t that, but it’s a launching pad.

This season, the Gators have already scored 28 touchdowns. It’s a crazy high number for a team that has only played four games, especially so with two of those games being against SEC competition. The Auburn Tigers aren’t elite, but they are very good, but the Rebels are definitely an elite team.
Where things get really crazy is when you compare how many touchdowns the Gators have scored this season compared to what they did last season. They are on pace for 84 touchdowns this season, while they only scored 29 in 2025. The turnaround has been crazy to witness.

When you look at the above number, it could mean a number of things. Maybe it’s the YPA for Philo or the YAC for Vernell Brown III, It’s more impressive than that. The top two running backs for the Gators, Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark, are averaging that number per carry.
Baugh is averaging 7.2 YPC on 83 carries, while Clark is at 8.1 YPC on 32 carries. Overall, the team is averaging 5.9, but a lot of those other carries are coming during garbage time. Whether it be on zone or gap scheme plays, the Gators are thriving at moving bodies in the run game and creating schematic advantage with motion and unbalanced formations. This is something that feels sustainable, especially when you look at how they are getting their yards on the ground.
