Florida State Seminoles are making a huge impression on a five-star player who seems to be wanted by everyone
The Florida State Seminoles are impressing five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews in the 2027 class.
When it comes to recruiting, the Florida State Seminoles have not missed a beat despite being a two-win team a year ago. Their play to start 2025 has only helped fuel that, to where now there is a five-star recruit in the 2027 class who is very intrigued in what’s going on in Tallahassee, Florida.
“[Head] Coach Norvell and [Offensive Line] Coach Hand are some of the best coaches I’ve ever talked to. They really know how to get a recruit. They text and call me every day, and that really means a lot to me,” five-star OT Mark Matthews told Rivals.
The Seminoles have beaten the Alabama Crimson Tide in an absolute beat down, and then put up 77 on an FCS squad to show that they’re not letting their foot off the gas. Now, they are getting everyone’s attention. They were a two-win team last year, to now being ranked in the top-ten, so, of course eyes are on them.
Seminoles would love what Matthews brings to the table
The 6’5″ offensive lineman from one of the best high school football programs in the country has the size to be an elite offensive lineman at the next level. However, it’s more so a question of whether the St. Thomas Aquinas tackle will be that at the next level, or an offensive guard. He has great speed for his size, and can get to the next level on run plays, but he could keep growing into the body of a tackle by the time he’s a senior, and certainly by the time he’s a true freshman in college.
Matthews is the sixth-best player in the entire 2027 class, the second best offensive tackle, and the second best player in the loaded state of Florida. And, those in-state connections are why FSU will always be an option, until they aren’t. Right now, Miami seems to be leading the charge, with the Florida Gators and Notre Dame Fighting Irish coming in second and third, according to Rivals.
The Seminoles were able to hang with Alabama in the trenches, and actually dominated them there. Alabama is a team that always has some of the best players on the defensive line, and FSU threw them around. So, imagine getting one of the best offensive lineman in the country. Florida State would love to have a guy like Matthews, especially if they want to continue to play the way they’ve been playing, where tehy’re a physical team who runs the ball well.
Who knows what could happen, but FSU is making some moves that are opening some eyes.
