The Georgia Bulldogs have been on fire with their 2026 recruiting class. Kirby Smart and company already have 30 commits locked in for next year's freshman group with a handful of critical targets still to go.

Now, thanks to a couple big commits this week (and a few potentially coming up) Georgia is closing in on the top overall class in the nation.

Georgia Bulldogs so close to number one 2026 recruiting class

Georgia's week didn't start out with great news on the recruiting trail since they lost out on five star linebacker Tyler Atkinson, but Kirby Smart and company immediately turned around and locked in another star linebacker recruit in Nick Abrams.

Abrams was a highly coveted four star pursued by all the major brands in college football, but ultimately Georgia's development and the relationships with the staff gave the Bulldogs an edge over Oregon, Alabama, and Michigan.

The Bulldogs weren't done with just that one commit this week. Less than two days later coach Smart landed yet another high pedigree defensive recruit with top 150 talent Valdin Sone (a defensive lineman).

The dynamic defensive duo of Abrams and Sone absolutely stacks that half of the ball for Georgia's 2026. Signing those two was an excellent encore to landing five star tight end Kaiden Prothro and two-way star (possibly running back) Tyriq Green just the week before.

Georgia Bulldogs top remaining recruiting targets

Georgia now finds themselves within just one point of USC in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings and one tenth of a point on Rivals Industry Team Rankings lists. Signing virtually any recruit in the country would push Georgia up into the top overall spot, but who could the Bulldogs actually land?

Georgia may have already landed five star running back Derrek Cooper by the time you're reading this (pushing them into the top spot already), but Georgia has to beat out a handful of blue bloods there.

Their other five star running back target Savion Hiter seems to be leaning towards Michigan or Tennessee, but Georgia's still technically a finalist.

High three stars Breck Kolojay (OL) and Ben Boulware (DL) round out the "next recruits up" for Georgia to potentially land here soon. If Kirby Smart and company can land any of the four they likely lock up the top spot for 2026. If they land more than one? It might be game over for every other program in the nation.
