Former LSU Tigers star evokes memories of Odell Beckham Jr. with incredible catch in a massive performance in the CFL
While Zy Alexander was hoping that he would make it in the NFL, he’s having a lot of success north of the border through just five games.
After a successful career with the LSU Tigers, cornerback Zy Alexander was hoping to make it in the NFL. He played well for the Tigers across two seasons in 2023 and 2024 after spending three years with SE Louisiana. Ultimately, Alexander went undrafted.
His scouting report from NFL.com highlights a player who could succeed in any scheme with starting potential.
“Alexander utilizes size, speed, length and athleticism through all phases of coverage. He’s not overly disruptive from press but rarely allows much separation if beaten. He leverages routes with pattern recognition and maintains connection to the route from trail. He’s effective from man and zone with timing and tracking that could make him a coveted prospect for defenses with heavy Cover 3 looks. Alexander’s tools and traits give him a chance to become a starter.”
Ultimately, Alexander went undrafted coming out of LSU, likely because he tested athletically unimpressive, led by a 4.56 40-yard dash.
Zy Alexander does his best Odell Beckham Jr. impression
After being cut by the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills of the NFL, along with the Houston Gamblers of the UFL, Alexander signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFl in early April before the start of training camp.
He earned a job with the Stampeders out of training camp and has been impressive up north. On Thursday night, Alexander had his best performance of season with two interceptions against the Toronto Argonauts. The first of those two interceptions off quarterback Chad Kelly was among the best catches you will ever see, let alone an interception. It was right out of the Odell Beckham Jr. playbook, something that Tigers fans know plenty about.
Alexander having this much success in the CFL is great for multiple reasons. One, it’s great for the success of the Stampeders in the West Division, as it’s a deep group. Second, Alexander’s likely desire is to play in the NFL, and performances like this one are going to open up those doors.
It’s a great start to Alexander’s pro career, and one of the better interceptions you will ever see.
