Kirk Herbstreit sends warning about the Texas A&M vs LSU game and it’s something that should worry fans
The LSU Tigers will host the Texas A&M Aggies in a huge SEC showdown on Saturday night in Baton Rouge.
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit sent a warning about the LSU vs Texas A&M game this weekend that should worry both fan bases.
Both teams enter the game with a 2-1 record.
Whichever team loses on Saturday night will see their College Football Playoff hopes go on life support. It will still be possible for the losing team to reach the playoff, but there won’t be much room for error the rest of the season (it’s unclear if a three loss SEC team will get into the playoff with the new nine game SEC conference schedule).
Beyond the playoff implications, Herbstreit thinks whichever team loses could be at risk of having agents contacting players about plans for next season.
“Whoever loses this game is going to have a team that is going to start having their agents talking about ‘Where am I going to go?’” said Herbstreit on ESPN’s Get Up. “The SEC, I think, way more than any other conference, when their players are out of the Playoff, they lose interest quickly and they start thinking about their next season. So, there is a lot of stake in this game. … The loser, I think, potentially faces that.”
I think Herbstreit is probably right. Now, that’s not to say that players will lose interest or stop competing — each player will make their own decision — but it’s something that every program inevitably faces.
There’s a lot at stake in this game. Life will get significantly harder for whichever coach comes out on the wrong side of the scoreboard.
