Lane Kiffin is now hurting LSU, and he needs to change course before it’s too late
It’s time for the LSU Tigers head coach to wave the white flag.
Lane Kiffin gave it a good shot.
He tried to bring a player back to LSU that would have helped the Tigers in 2026.
But former Ole Miss and Cleveland Browns tight end Dae’Quan Wright is not a player LSU necessarily has to have. The Tigers have a good roster with or without him. And now that the SEC has made its stance clear on former NFL players playing in college, it’s time for Kiffin to wave the white flag and move on from this whole situation.
Regardless of whether you think Wright should be able to play for LSU or not, and regardless of where you stand on Kiffin’s view of the situation – (I think Kiffin is only doing this because he thinks it’s going to help him win more games. I don’t think it has anything to do with what’s fair or what’s right for any player) – it’s obvious that he needs to drop this whole situation. Keep it out of the court system, move on, and get ready for the start of this season.
LSU’s roster was good enough before the Dae’Quan Wright saga
LSU kicks off against Clemson in less than two weeks. The roster Kiffin has had all summer is the roster he’s been preparing to have for that game. Before all this nonsense started with the TROs and court orders about players potentially leaving NFL training camps and going back to college, there was a belief in this roster that it had enough to get the job done this season.
Not having Wright doesn’t change that.
And really, who’s to say that adding Wright to the roster would change anything for LSU this season anyway? No one really knows. The point, though, is that if this roster was good enough a few weeks ago, why is it not still good enough?
What message are you sending to the rest of the team if you’re trying to put up this big of a fight over one player who you didn’t even think was going to be on your team?
It’s time to leave this situation in the past.
After all, as Kiffin has said, this is a one-time deal because of the NCAA’s decision to pass the 5-for-5 rule in the middle of summer instead of doing it last December (or this December) when all of this could have been avoided. It’s ultimately the NCAA’s fault that any of this is happening.
But it’s not worth making a big to-do and going to war against your own conference over one player. Just take the loss and move on.
It’s time to focus on Clemson anyway. This is a distraction that’s doing more harm to LSU than good at this point.
