‘LSU doesn’t play around’ – Lane Kiffin and the Tigers are ‘coming hard’ after another Power-4 team’s prized player
Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers are trying to steal a big-time five-star recruit from another Power-4 college football program. Kiffin doesn’t usually miss when he zeroes in on a player.
Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers are “coming hard” after one of Texas Tech’s top 2027 commits.
According to On3’s Chad Simmons, LSU is making a strong run at 2027 five-star EDGE Anthony Sweeney, who committed to Texas Tech last month.
Sweeney, 6-foot-4/230 pounds from Baltimore, MD, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 3 EDGE in the nation and the No. 23 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. He’s also rated as the No. 1 player in the state of Maryland.
Anthony Sweeney says LSU “doesn’t mess around”
Sweeney told Simmons that it will be tough for another team to flip him, but he also pointed out that LSU is “coming hard” after him.
“LSU doesn’t play around,” said Sweeney to On3. “They are coming hard. Coach (Sterling) Lucas has known me for a long time, and we had that relationship when he was at South Carolina, so he is not giving up. LSU really wants me to visit this summer, and it is something I have to make a decision on.”
Kiffin doesn’t usually miss when he makes a player a top priority. And while we don’t know exactly how high Sweeney is on LSU’s board, it’s clear from the five-star recruit’s comments that the Tigers are being pretty aggressive.
One thing working against LSU, though, is that Sweeney is currently planning to take one official visit. And Texas Tech is getting that visit.
Recruiting is as wild as ever, and these battles are never over until a player has signed (and even then the transfer portal can come into play). This is one for LSU fans to keep an eye on over the next few weeks — it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Tigers manage to get Sweeney to Baton Rouge for an official visit. And if that happens, then flip watch may be officially on for Sweeney.
