One of Lane Kiffin’s plans for the LSU Tigers just got blown up.

Kiffin and the Tigers were hoping to add former LSU EDGE Jack Pyburn back to the roster after he was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Pyburn, who led the NFL in sacks during the preseason, was recently granted a temporary restraining order, which allows him to return to college for the 2026 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs, however, claimed Pyburn on Monday afternoon.

SEC rosters have to be finalized by this upcoming Friday. This move by the Chiefs means that Pyburn will not be able to return to LSU for the 2026 season.

It’s not a huge surprise that Pyburn was claimed after his strong preseason, but you also have to wonder if Kansas City made this move just to prevent LSU from bringing him back to college football. I wouldn’t put it past some NFL front offices to use the waiver wire to make a statement like that.
