Paul Finebaum leaves no doubt on what he thinks of LSU’s future under Lane Kiffin after loss to Ole Miss
The LSU Tigers suffered a tough loss against the Ole Miss Rebels in Week 3 of the college football season.
LSU’s loss to Ole Miss this past Saturday night in Oxford is a tough one for Tigers fans.
It was a game that was circled all offseason by both fan bases thanks to the drama surrounding Lane Kiffin’s decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU last winter.
LSU is supposed to have the better roster, but it was Ole Miss who ultimately came out on top Saturday night.
The loss wasn’t ideal for the Tigers, but ESPN’s Paul Finebaum isn’t letting it change his opinion of the future of LSU under Kiffin.
“I think he will win those games at LSU,” said Finebaum of Kiffin. “I just don’t think it was going to be Saturday night. Yeah, I sat here the other day and picked LSU, because I’ve bought into what I’ve seen maybe a little early. The scene was just too much. Kiffin probably knew that. He didn’t say that, but he probably knew that.
“But as far as the future is concerned, I really do believe that Lane Kiffin will win a national championship at LSU. Now can Pete Golding do that at Ole Miss? It really doesn’t matter, we’re not talking about that right here. But I think Kiffin can do that in Baton Rouge.”
No one, obviously, can predict the future. But I tend to agree with Finebaum. Kiffin is an elite play-caller, he’s proven he can win at a high level, and he has the best resources he’s ever had. Kiffin isn’t going to win every game at LSU — there will be some tough losses (that’s just this era of college football) — but I think he’ll eventually get it done in Baton Rouge.
