Kamario Taylor’s Heisman case got even stronger after Mississippi State’s Week 4 win over Missouri
Kamario Taylor torched Missouri for 360 yards and three touchdowns in Week 4, and the conversation around the Heisman race needs to shift accordingly.
A superstar is being created right before our very eyes this season in college football, and his name is Kamario Taylor.
Mississippi State’s matchup against Missouri this weekend was a sneaky test. This is an offense that had been playing pretty well for the most part with a really good quarterback in Austin Simmons, and the timing made it even trickier knowing Alabama is on deck. So what does Kamario Taylor do to solidify a true Heisman campaign four weeks into the season? He goes 27 of 38 passing for 360 yards, and three touchdowns.
It honestly feels like we’re watching another version of 2011 Baylor, a team that came out of nowhere with a prolific quarterback in RG3 who just took over the sport. Taylor is so dynamic, so fun to watch.
Everyone loves Kamario Taylor, and for good reason. The arm talent, the processing, the ability to dissect a defense that had been playing quality football on the other side of the ball. This is not a guy padding stats against bottom-of-the-barrel competition. Missouri is a legitimate SEC program, and Taylor carved them up anyway.
The Heisman race needs a new front-runner and it starts with Kamario Taylor
I don’t think it’s crazy to say at this point that Kamario Taylor may be the front-runner in the Heisman race. Trinidad Chambliss of course still in the conversation, but after they lost to Florida in the fashion that they did, how can you not give the edge to Taylor? The production is there, the film is there, and the wins are stacking up for Mississippi State in a way nobody predicted before the season.
And I will throw this out there: if you replace the Mississippi State logo with a bigger brand, let’s say LSU just for fun, this team would be in the Top-5. You can’t convince me otherwise. The only thing holding back the national perception of what Taylor is doing is the program he’s doing it for. That’s not a knock on Mississippi State. That’s an indictment of how we evaluate talent in this sport.
Kamario Taylor is building something special in Starkville, and four weeks into the season, there’s no quarterback in the entire country playing better football right now. If he keeps this up against Alabama, the Heisman conversation won’t just include him. It’ll continue to revolve around him.
