Notre Dame football has been gaining a ton of momentum in the 2027 recruiting class in recent weeks. As we have seen in the past, head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish do a tremendous job closing on recruits this time of the year. It appears that the Irish staff could be making a late push for a 5-star recruit that every major program is after.

Elite 2027 Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter’s Prep offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola is fresh off a visit to South Bend a couple of weeks ago for the Blue-Gold Game, which ended up being a massive event for the Irish staff. Going into the weekend, there was intrigue from Olubobola, but after that, they quickly became a realistic landing spot. Confidence is building for Notre Dame’s chances.

In an update from Rivals recruiting analysts Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons, they listed both Notre Dame and Miami as the teams to beat for Olubobola currently. Wiltfong took it one step further in the piece, logging an expert prediction for the New Jersey star to land with the Irish. If correct, this would be a massive job by offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, Freeman, and the rest of the staff.

Notre Dame really solidified the fit for Olubobola during that visit, including hosting former Notre Dame and St. Peter’s Prep alumni Shayne Simon, Jayson, and Justin Ademilola. It will be interesting if the Irish can use this momentum to close down the stretch. They appear to be in a better spot than some believed previously.

Oluwasemilore Olubobola’s recruiting background

Olubobola is currently rated as a consensus top-50 overall player by each of the major recruiting platforms. In the 247 Sports Composite rankings, the talented offensive lineman is rated a five-star, the No. 15 overall player, the No. 43offensive tackle, and the No. 1 player from the state of New Jersey. This is potentially considered an elite player by each site.

If Olubobola’s recruiting rankings don’t impress you enough, his offer list sure will. Some of his top offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, LSU, Michigan, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami, Auburn, Florida State, Nebraska, South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Washington, Michigan State, Boston College, Wisconsin, Illinois, Pitt, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, UNC, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Duke, Rutgers, Syracuse, UCLA, UCF, and Wake Forest, among others.

At 6-7 and 280 pounds, Olubobola is an impressive blend of length and movement skills. When you watch his film, it is almost unbelievable that he is so slender at 280 pounds. With a frame to pack on a ton of good weight, this is a player whose upside feels almost unlimited. Olubobola would fit perfectly in an offensive line room that includes the likes of Guerby Lambert and Will Black, but we will see where things go from here.
