The college football season is in full swing, but recruiting never stops. The Ohio State Buckeyes have the majority of their 2027 class locked in, and now the focus shifts to getting these players signed this winter and making it official that they will be coming to Columbus. 

No commitment in the class matters more than 5-star edge rusher DJ Jacobs from Roswell, Georgia, the No. 1 player in the country and a 6-foot-5, 240-pound pass rusher with the ability to possibly play right away for the Buckeyes next season.

Jacobs committed to Ohio State since last December, but slight worry remains until winter 

Jacobs has been committed to Ohio State since last December. He has already taken a game day visit to Columbus this season and remains a player other programs are still trying to pry away from the Buckeyes. According to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong, Jacobs will take a visit to Tennessee this weekend when they host Texas. The Volunteers have been one of the schools pursuing him the hardest, along with Miami.

Tennessee always throws around a lot of money on the NIL front, and that’s likely going to be one of the pushes they make with Jacobs down the stretch. Still, it sounds like Ohio State’s commit remains firm, and the Buckeyes don’t have much to worry about.

DJ Jacobs’ father makes his son’s stance clear

DJ’s father, David, recently made his son’s position clear on his commitment to Ohio State.

“DJ is straight forward telling those people he’s locked in with Ohio State,” David Sr. said via Rivals. “He tells those coaches straight up. I don’t see nobody else out there like (Ohio State). Until he signs he hasn’t signed but I don’t see him looking nowhere else.”

That’s a pretty straightforward comment from DJ’s father, who has a relationship with Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Gardner. David played for Gardner at Georgia over two decades ago, so the family connection to the Volunteers program is real.

The visit appears to be a family trip for the Jacobs

DJ is making this trip with his brother Dawson Jacobs, a 2028 4-star defensive lineman the Buckeyes are also recruiting. Tennessee is pursuing Dawson as well. This sounds like DJ is taking a trip with his family to Tennessee for a big-time game against the Texas Longhorns, similar to what he’s done recently. 

He went on a visit to Georgia with his brother as well, and there doesn’t appear to be a whole lot to worry about for Ohio State.

Anytime another school gets a major recruit like Jacobs in person, it does cause some pause, and that’s natural. Ohio State just has to get to signing day, and all worries will be gone.
