‘I feel bad for him’ – Jeremiah Smith pulled no punches after Ohio State’s win over Illinois
Ohio State star Jeremiah Smith had to troll an Illinois defender following the Buckeyes’ first Big Ten win.
Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith sent a firm reminder to the rest of the country why he is a top player in college football.
The Buckeyes rolled to a 42-19 Big Ten win over Illinois in Week 4, and it was a masterful day for Ohio State’s passing game, led by top target Smith, who had 12 catches for 217 yards and four touchdowns.
Smith’s fourth touchdown was a 26-yard score where he made a defender look quite silly on his way to the end zone. The junior wideout had quite the admission after the game, having some fun with the play himself.
“I can say I feel bad for him. Uh, when I did that, I just started laughing when I did it. So yeah, I feel kind of bad for him,” Smith said.
Illinois’ defenders probably aren’t going to take kindly to that comment, but there’s not much you can do when you’re made to look like that on national television.
Jeremiah Smith has leveled up his game in a major way for the Buckeyes
That touchdown was a signature play from Smith, who has leveled up his game this season for the Buckeyes. He’s a player doing a lot more damage after the catch now, and it’s turned his game up to another level. He can still cut off sharp routes and make defenders look silly, as well.
On the season, Smith already has 33 catches for 617 yards and seven touchdowns in just four games. We’re set to be in store for a massive junior season from Smith in his final year before he heads to the NFL.
Going into the season, Smith’s career-high in yards in one season came as a freshman when he recorded 76 catches for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns in 16 games to help the Buckeyes win a national championship. Smith is on pace to shatter 1,300 yards this season if he keeps it up.
He’s at the top of his game right now, and the Buckeyes wide receiver is having fun with it along the way, as you can tell with his comment poking fun at the Illinois defender. Don’t sleep on the possibility that Smith puts together one of the greatest individual seasons in Ohio State history before he’s done regardless of position.
