Key Ohio State football target delivers promising news for the Buckeyes’ wants of getting him to Columbus
Ohio State always wants to keep the best offensive linemen in the Buckeye State, and they just got some key news from a player that very well could end up in Columbus.
Ohio State Buckeyes offensive line recruiting continues to be a priority for the program, and a top in-state target in the 2028 class is generating some buzz.
Springfield, Ohio, offensive tackle Kavon Blackmon picked up an offer from Ohio State in June, and the 2028 prospect is quickly becoming one of the more important recruits on the Buckeyes’ board.
Blackmon is ranked the No. 170 player nationally and the No. 19 offensive tackle according to 247Sports Composite. He checks in as the No. 6 ranked player in Ohio at 6-foot-6, 275 pounds, and holds over 20 offers from programs like Tennessee, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Michigan State.
Blackmon could be the top in-state offensive lineman for Ohio State in 2028
Ohio State has long made it a point of emphasis to lock down the top offensive linemen who stay in the state, and Blackmon is perhaps the top in-state offensive line prospect in the 2028 class. The Buckeyes already loaded up along the offensive line in the 2026 class with six commitments, and keeping that pipeline going will be key for the program.
Ohio State currently has three commitments in the 2028 class, all top-70 players, but none are offensive linemen. Adding Blackmon would fill a clear need and continue the program’s track record of keeping Ohio’s best up front in Columbus.
Tennessee looms as potential competition
“I’m excited to see OSU, Tennessee, and a couple more,” Blackmon said via Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong. “I just gotta plan things out with my mom and about me being able to get transportation to where I wanna go.”
Those two programs are no strangers to going head-to-head on the recruiting trail. The Buckeyes and Volunteers just battled for five-star running back David Gabriel Georges in the 2027 class, and Tennessee won out there, landing the five-star back.
The recruitment of Blackmon could shape up as another Ohio State and Tennessee battle. The Volunteers have been aggressive nationally, and their presence on Blackmon’s list of schools to watch is worth monitoring.
Blackmon is an offensive lineman to watch
Blackmon is still early in his recruitment, but the combination of his size, his ranking, and his proximity to Columbus makes him a likely fit for what Ohio State typically wants to do along the offensive line.
