Three quarterbacks were taken in the 2025 NFL Draft that had connections to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Will Howard went to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round after his National Championship season with the Buckeyes. Quinn Ewers spent his freshman season in Columbus and he was a seventh-round pick out of Texas to the Miami Dolphins.

2023 starter Kyle McCord went in the same round as Howard and ended up with the Philadelphia Eagles. McCord was one of multiple players who received a prank call or two during the draft that led him to think he was going earlier.

"I got a few prank calls from 609 numbers and 215 numbers, so when I got that 215 phone call, I was thinking it was another prank call," McCord said on Saturday.

But picking up the phone and having Howie (Roseman) on the other side, it was pretty cool."

McCord returning to Philadelphia where he’s from with a shot to be the backup for Jalen Hurts is a cool story. McCord was once a highly touted recruit out of the Philadelphia area and the Buckeyes recruited him hard. McCord went for 4,779 passing yards, with 34 touchdowns and 12 interceptions with the Orange in 2024.

In his one season as the Ohio State starter, McCord threw 24 touchdown passes to just six interceptions and added 3,170 passing yards. Ohio State and McCord went in different directions after the season and it worked out for both sides. Ohio State went on to get Howard and win a National Championship, while McCord upped his stock with Syracuse.

The prank calls are a childish prank that players like Tyler Warren, Shedeur Sanders, and now McCord had to deal with. All were drafted into the NFL in the end but shouldn’t have had to deal with that during the draft.
