Ohio State beating Penn State wasn’t the only win the Buckeyes picked up in Week 10 of the college football season
The Buckeyes will take it without a doubt.
The Ohio State Buckeyes came out of the bye week and got just the result they wanted against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Ohio State moved to 8-0 with a 38-14 win over Penn State in a matchup against former Buckeyes defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.
This Nov. 1 matchup against Penn State was once expected to be a much bigger game. That wasn’t the case, and Ohio State rolled despite a slow start that included a costly fumble just before halftime. The Buckeyes led 17-14 at the break, then buckled down in the second half to take firm control of the game. Beating Penn State is another step forward for Ohio State, putting them one step closer to a berth in the Big Ten Championship.
Texas Longhorns did the Buckeyes a favor in Week 10
Ohio State’s Week 1 win over Texas looks even better now with how the Longhorns are playing as of late. Arch Manning and Texas took down No. 9 Vanderbilt 34-31. The Longhorns have now won four straight games since their Oct. 4 loss to the Florida Gators, which bodes well for the Buckeyes’ strength of schedule and overall resume.
The first edition of this year’s College Football Playoff rankings will be released on Nov. 4, and the Buckeyes should debut at No. 1. Ohio State has held the top spot in the AP Poll since Week 2 following its 14-7 win over the Longhorns. The Buckeyes showed what their explosive offense is capable of against Penn State, and it was a terrific day for quarterback Julian Sayin. Sayin finished 20-of-23 passing for 316 yards and four passing touchdowns.
Texas still has two ranked opponents remaining in Georgia and Texas A&M. While the Longhorns are one loss away from likely being eliminated from playoff contention, they’ll remain in the mix if they can win out. Ohio State fans should have no doubt about rooting for Texas every week, as each Longhorn win only strengthens the Buckeyes’ playoff case.
At the end of the day, Ohio State will be right where it wants to be if it continues to take care of business. The Buckeyes have done that so far, and next up is a trip to face the Purdue Boilermakers — with a chance to move to 9-0.
