The Ohio State Buckeyes needed a win after a tough week, and 4-star quarterback Brady Edmunds delivered one. Edmund’s, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound prospect out of Huntington Beach, California, shut down his recruitment and reaffirmed his commitment to Ohio State in the class of 2027. The decision brings clarity to a quarterback position that had been clouded by uncertainty for months.

Edmunds considered flipping before recommitting

Edmunds has been committed to Ohio State since Dec. 2024, but his recruitment was far from settled. The 4-star signal-caller had been weighing whether to flip his commitment to the UCLA Bruins, or stay the course with the Buckeyes. Ohio State’s pursuit of a second quarterback in the class of 2027 didn’t sit right with Edmunds fully, and it forced him to keep his options open.

Edmunds took a June official visit to UCLA and followed it up with an official visit to Columbus. It was on that Columbus trip where he solidified his decision to remain a Buckeye.

According to 247Sports composite rankings, Edmunds is the No. 242 nationally ranked prospect and the No. 20 quarterback in the class. He held offers from Georgia, Arkansas, Michigan, Florida State, Oregon, Texas, and Washington, among others. This was never a recruit without options.

Why Edmunds chose to stay

Family ties and fandom played a role in this one. Edmunds has family from Ohio and grew up an Ohio State fan. That connection carried weight throughout the process, even as he explored other programs. One comment via Eleven Warriors from Edmunds shows how he really felt all along about being a Buckeye.

“I mean, I walk into my bedroom when I get home from the OV, and I have an Ohio State flag hanging on the wall,” Edmunds said via 11W. “I got an Ohio State teddy bear, and my whole wardrobe is Ohio State.” 

It was hard for me to separate from the fact that this was my goal, this was what I wanted to do, even without football.”

Ohio State needed Edmunds to stay put. The Buckeyes already lost out on 5-star running back David Gabriel Georges last week, leaving a hole in their 2027 class. If Edmunds had flipped on top of that, it would have added another layer of problems on the recruiting trail. Losing your committed quarterback while still searching for a running back is not where Ohio State wants to be heading into the fall.

What this means for Ohio State’s 2027 class

Edmunds full commitment doesn’t solve everything. Ohio State still needs to find a running back, and the 2027 cycle is far from over with 18 commitments. Still, locking down the quarterback position removes one major question mark. The Buckeyes can put their finishing touches around Edmunds without worrying about a last-minute flip.
