We are just days away from the start of training camps around the NFL, and with that, a large number of former Ohio State Buckeyes will be back on the field.

However, one former Buckeye has made headlines for the wrong reasons just days before rookies report. Former Ohio State star and current Cleveland Browns running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested early Saturday morning in Broward County, Florida.

Judkins was booked on a charge of battery/domestic violence, according to court records in Broward County. The arresting agency was the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

This is a troubling development, especially for a rookie who is just days away from beginning his first NFL training camp. Judkins is projected to be the starting running back for the Browns in the 2025 season after being selected early in the second round. After transferring from Ole Miss where he had back-to-back 1,000-yard season, Judkins ran for 1,060 rushing yards in Columbus to help the Buckeyes win a national championship. 

Judkins remains the only Browns draft pick who has not yet signed his rookie contract, due in part to ongoing second-round contract holdouts. So far, only two players taken in the second round have signed contracts—both fully guaranteed—leading the rest of the second-round picks to push for similar deals.

An arrest this close to training camp is far from ideal and presents a bad look for both Judkins and the Browns. The timing of this couldn’t be much worse for Judkins just as he prepares to ramp up for his rookie season.

Cleveland’s rookies are scheduled to report for minicamp on July 18, and Judkins is expected to be among them.
