The Ohio State football program had its annual spring game over the weekend. It was a nice look at not only the new faces on the team and what the Buckeyes are going to look like — but it was a key recruiting day in Columbus.

Ohio State had a Texas Longhorns commitment on campus and it’s clear they’ve entered the equation coming out of the weekend.

Ohio State is in the mix for Texas Longhorns pledge following spring game

Manvel (TX) three-star S Greedy James was in Columbus for the Buckeyes’ spring game and he received an offer from the Buckeyes while in town. James has been committed to Texas since December and he’s a 6-foot, 175-pound safety with other offers from Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Florida, and Texas Tech.

“I most definitely loved my visit to Ohio State!” James stated, via Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong. “I met with Coach Ryan Day as soon as I arrived.  He explained how the culture, and people within the program set Ohio State football apart.

“I also spent time with defensive coordinator Coach Matt Patricia, whose experience at the highest level speaks for itself. It would be an incredible opportunity to learn from a coach with NFL success and multiple Super Bowl wins.”

Coach Day has made it a point to get NFL coaches on the staff, not only for their ability to call the game from an Xs and Os standpoint, but also for their popularity amongst recruits. Coaches who have been at the highest level have always done well recruiting in Columbus whether they were a player or coach in the NFL.

Ohio State has two safety commitments with four-star Eli Johnson and three-star Angelo Smith. The Buckeyes will likely add at least one more commitment and James would be a good candidate, but it’ll take a flip.

Notably, the Buckeyes will travel to Texas to play the Longhorns in Week 2 of the college football season in September.
