Oklahoma Sooners legend Baker Mayfield has to be hilariously hating what his alma mater just made him do
Oklahoma Sooners former quarterback Baker Mayfield showed up to his media availability with the Buccaneers wearing a Michigan shirt.
The Oklahoma Sooners are looking to get back on track this week against New Mexico. After a brutal weekend against the Michigan Wolverines, they need this win badly. Baker Mayfield, one of the greatest Sooners QBs ever, is paying for it.
In the NFL, practices start on Wednesday, and that’s the first day of the injury report and media availability. That is, if you played Sunday. On Wednesday, it’s usually the head coach and the starting quarterback. Not every team is the same, but that’s how most do it, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mayfield showed up to the press conference wearing a tight Michigan Wolverines tank top. It was Maize yellow, and man, it was tight. And by tight, I do not mean cool.
“Oklahoma vs. Michigan, Todd’s son was on the winning side of it, and the Sooners were not,” Mayfield said to reporters on Wednesday. “Therefore, I squeezed into this little tank top.”
Mayfield only has his alma mater to thank.
Baker Mayfield needs his team to start playing well before it’s too late
Now, the way the Sooners played against Michigan, they shouldn’t take anybody for granted. New Mexico just put up 70 points last week. That probably won’t happen to Oklahoma, but the Sooners need to hunker down and lock in. Why they went away from what worked against UTEP in the opener is a mystery. They need to use this game against the Lobos to fix their offense. And there are a lot of things to fix, too.
After that, they play the Georgia Bulldogs and a ton of other SEC schools. You know what that means? Well, there are probably a ton of players on Mayfield’s team who played for teams on the Sooners’ 2026 schedule. That could mean more bets made and more moments wearing other teams’ shirts.
