Oklahoma Sooners are now making it a priority to go after the teammate of one of their players they already have committed
The Oklahoma Sooners already have the No. 1 recruiting class in 2027, and they are trying to kick off their 2028 class the same way.
The Oklahoma Sooners have the No. 1 class in the SEC. However, they don’t yet have a recruit in the 2028 recruiting cycle. They do, though, have a ton of players they are pushing hard for, whether it’s talented, elite quarterbacks or teammates of players already committed to the 2027 class.
Mikyal Davis from Desert Edge in Arizona is set to become one of OU’s next cornerbacks if his pledge remains as is. OU could also land his teammate, who is a year behind Davis.
“They’re a great school in the SEC,” four-star CB Nekhi Lambeth told SoonerScoop. “My guy Mikyal’s committed there. So I’m trying to see what they’re talking about. Mikyal’s a great player going to that school, so I already know they’re a great school if a great player is going there. So it’d be a great school to watch them play, see how they are for sure… I have talked to the DB coach, Coach Morgan. When he came out to the showcase, I talked to him. Good person, good coach. I think he wants the best well-being of his players, for sure.”
Lambeth is 6’0, 170 pounds, and has great length he can use in press man. He’s got some good zone coverage techniques and traits. He is the No. 5 player in Arizona and the No. 15 cornerback in the 2028 class. If OU could land him, it could kickstart their 2028 cycle tremendously. Not to mention, they have been on a roll recruiting cornerbacks lately.
Oklahoma Sooners’ 2027 class has some elite cornerbacks
There is optimism that OU will secure in-state CB Gabriel Osborne. On3 currently predicts his commitment to OU over Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, and Miami. OU already holds commitments from four-star Mikhail McCreary and three-star Davis, whom we have already mentioned. They are also projected to add Trenton Blaylock, a Texas cornerback and brother of RB Tory Blaylock.
OU has targeted Osborne, the No. 11 cornerback in the 2027 class and No. 3 in Oklahoma, for some time. Osborne, a standout basketball player at Mustang High School, is a versatile dual-sport athlete. Rivals projects Oklahoma to land him. He would be the next huge recruit at the position for the Sooners to land. The next could be Lambeth. Venables knows how to recruit the CB position, and once he’s all in on a guy, he usually lands them. Let’s see if that’s the case for Lambeth.
