Former Ole Miss Rebels star quarterback Jaxson Dart has been putting together a strong rookie showing for the New York Giants, but is now the center of NFL penalties for his team, coach, and teammate Cam Skattebo.

Jaxson Dart had been forced off the field for concussion examination amid his impressive win over the Philadelphia Eagles a few short weeks ago. He was able to return to game action, and lead the Giants to a win, but that wasn’t the biggest story line coming out of that game. Brian Daboll and running back Cam Skattebo got a little impatient and had to check in on their franchise quarter in the middle of his examination (under the blue tent). That’s apparently not a good thing, because now they’re all facing fines for it.

Jaxson Dart’s team, coaches, and teammates facing fine from the NFL

The news dropped on Friday that the NFL will be fined a whopping $200,000 for the incident of Jaxson Dart’s concussion test being interrupted. Head coach Brian Daboll will be fined a wildly high $100,000. Then Cam Skattebo will be getting hit for $15,000 for his “conduct detrimental to the league”.

This was reported initially via NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, but then expanded upon in detail by many other media members.

If those fines sound extremely high, that’s because they are. The NFL is trying to cover their own liability by communicating that concussion issues and protocols are a big deal. Unfortunately for Brian Dabol and Cam Skattebo, both of them were fined somewhere around 2% of their entire annual pay this year due to this simple incident.

Jaxson Dart of course bounced back following the concussion check, and to the surprise of absolutely zero Ole Miss Rebels fans now leads all NFL rookie quarterbacks in passing touchdowns, rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and is already 2-2 as a starter despite a tough schedule and wild comeback this past week by the Denver Broncos.

The NFL’s fines for his team and teammates shouldn’t really have a big impact on Dart himself, but the actions of his head coach and close friend and teammate Cam Skattebo speak to the volume of care and respect they both have for the former Ole Miss QB. Brian Daboll has shown confidence and significant interest in Dart dating back to early in the 2025 NFL Draft process. Skattebo and Dart are now the faces of the Giants franchise with all of their hilarious antics.

It’s good to see Dart finding early success and a home in the NFL that is excited for him to lead them, even if his days at Ole Miss are now just a fond memory.
