Ole Miss Rebels will try to take a massive step forward next weekend with one of the best 2027 prospects in the country
Lane Kiffin and staff are bringing in one of the Top 50 prospects next week.
Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels will host one of the top junior prospects in the country next week when the LSU Tigers come to town. 2027 Brookhaven (Miss.) EDGE Derwin Fields has booked a trip to Oxford, Miss., to check out Pete Golding’s defense.
The 6-foot-5, 220 pound prospect is ranked as the 49th overall prospect in the 2027 cycle. He is the 9th-ranked EDGE in the country and Mississippi’s No. 2 overall recruit. He currently holds notable offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, LSU, Missouri, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, and Southern Cal.
As a sophomore, Fields burst onto the scene with a monster campaign. He finished with 61 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks.
A Brookhaven assistant coach spoke with 247Sports about Fields’ game.
“His added weight gains in the weight room have made him a real problem for opposing offenses,” Aaron King said. “Through three games, teams very seldom attempt to single block him with their tackle. He has been double-teamed with a tight end or H-back mo1st of the time and still has eight tackles-for-loss and four sacks. When he does get a single block he is going to win that battle. He has been very effective as a run stopper, as well as a pass rusher.”
Ole Miss has recently been on quite the recruiting tear.
After landing four-star Grayson (Ga.) linebacker Anthony Davis, the Rebels flipped four-star New Albany (Miss.) offensive tackle Emanuel Tucker away from LSU. And despite losing four-star Tavares (Fla.) linebacker Azayiah Williams to Florida State, the Rebels quickly rebounded earlier this week by landing Central (La.) four-star linebacker JaMichael Garrett.
Not to mention, the 2026 class features other blue chip commitments from four-star Kemper County (Miss.) running back Damarius Yates, four-star Mt. Zion (Ill.) tight end JC Anderson, four-star Duncanville (Tex.) EDGE Landon Barnes, and four-star Oakland (Tenn.) safety Craig Tutt.
For now, it would appear things are shifting a touch inside the state of Mississippi, too. Kiffin’s hiring of former Ole Miss Rebel and NFL wide receiver Donte Moncrief has created a buzz within the Magnolia State. In fact, Moncrief’s cousin and current Auburn commit, Jase Mathews, recently received his fifth star from Rivals and there’s a considerable amount of buzz he could be at Ole Miss next weekend with Fields.
