The transfer portal is set to officially open on Jan. 2, but we are already getting flooded with news of talented college football players announcing they will enter. This time of the year is huge for each program to begin doing its research on what players it will be going after and where it should be prioritizing roster development. That is especially true at quarterback, which is the most important position in all of sports.

Over the last few days, several talented signal-callers have made their intentions known, and this promises to be a really interesting portal session. To have a little bit of fun, here is an early prediction for where each quarterback ends up when all is said and done. That includes DJ Lagway (Florida) finding a new home, Lane Kiffin getting his guy, and a couple of prominent programs making statements.

Top Portal QB predictions

DJ Lagway (Florida) – Texas Tech

While Lagway has all the talent in the world, his game just hasn’t developed the way some had hoped in Gainesville. In his two seasons, he has thrown for 28 touchdowns but also thrown 23 interceptions.

At 6-3 and 242 pounds, Lagway is a pocket quarterback with enough athleticism to make some throws as an extender. You would think that what Joey McGuire is doing with the Red Raiders would be extremely attractive for a player like Lagway, who needs an injection of confidence. He is also from Texas, so getting back to his roots might be for the best.

Sam Leavitt (Arizona State) – LSU

This feels like the perfect fit for both sides. Head coach Lane Kiffin wants a quarterback who can affect a defense with his legs, on top of having a ton of upside with his arm. Leavitt is also a very volatile quarterback who would be best served in an offense that keeps things simple. That is what Kiffin tries to do: allow for easy answers and let the talent take over. There is some early buzz between the two sides, and it is easy to see why.

Brendan Sorsby (Cincinnati) – Tennessee

Texas Tech and Indiana are the two schools mentioned most when discussing Sorsby, but there will be a bidding war for the talented quarterback. One thing to consider, however, is that a large portion of Sorsby’s family actually lives in Knoxville.

It will be interesting to see if head coach Josh Heupel and the Vols make a strong push. It will all depend on whether they feel either George MacIntyre or true freshman Faizon Brandon is ready to play. It will be hard to pass up Sorsby, a kid with a very real NFL future, if he has a legitimate interest.

Dylan Raiola (Nebraska) – Miami

Raiola is coming off a broken fibula, so his recovery timeline is not fully fleshed out. Whenever he does return, he is a very talented signal-caller, and there is a reason why Raiola was once considered to be a five-star player coming out of high school.

In 22 games for the Cornhuskers, Raiola managed to throw for 4,819 yards and 31 touchdowns. His play style feels like the perfect fit into a Shannon Dawson offense and is a slight risk worth taking.

Aidan Chiles (Michigan State) – Indiana

Indiana is in an interesting position from a portal perspective. With it just having the Heisman Trophy winner behind center in Fernando Mendoza, and also having a good amount of money to throw around, it could conceivably make a strong push for any quarterback it wants.

The tricky part is that there will still be other quarterbacks who enter in the future, completely changing the formula. For now, let’s see head coach Curt Cignetti work his magic and unlock the upside that Chiles possesses.

Beau Pribula (Missouri) – Virginia Tech

Pribula took some by surprise when he announced that he is entering the portal on Thursday. Given Pribula’s relationship with James Franklin, I would expect Virginia Tech to have some interest in him.

Florida is also another team to watch. With his mobility, Pribula would be an interesting fit into Buster Faulkner’s offense. While unlikely, would a return to Penn State make sense? There are some intriguing options, but it is very early in the process.
