The Texas Longhorns welcome UTSA to Austin on Saturday night as the newly anointed No. 1 team in college football.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and star quarterback Arch Manning are riding high after a come-from-behind 24-23 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes, but the UTSA Roadrunners will look to play the spoiler role in Texas’s backyard. Emotions can run high after marquee wins, and history tells us that lesser opponents can catch a team sleeping after a signature victory.

UTSA does have some talent to work with, including star running back Will Henderson III, which gives them at least a puncher’s chance of keeping things competitive early.

Here is how I see this Texas-UTSA game going, some key storylines to consider, and a score prediction.

Can Texas come out fast at home?

One thing I’ll be keeping a close eye on is how quickly Texas can come out on Saturday night with the home crowd behind them. Riding the momentum from last weekend, the Longhorns could conceivably start the way they finished against Ohio State, playing in a good rhythm and executing quality football on both sides of the ball.

The only chance UTSA has to keep this close is to stifle a fast start and run the football with Henderson early in the contest. It will be up to a talented Texas defensive line to shut down the Roadrunners’ rushing attack while the offense maintains the rhythm it found on the tail end of the second half last week. If they can do both, this game should be decisive and potentially over before halftime.

I do think, however, that we might see the Longhorns slightly sleepwalk early, and the offense could look a bit out of rhythm to start. Eventually, I see Manning having a big contest and settling in.

Wide receivers Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo need a clean outing

Wide receivers Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo had good moments last week but also had a couple of troubling drops. I want to see a clean overall outing from both players on Saturday night. I think each will make an explosive play during the contest, but cleaning up the drops will be just as important as any highlight-reel catch.

From there, it is about good decisions for Manning and getting out of this matchup against UTSA injury-free.

The running game should be a huge point of emphasis

There were great signs from both Hollywood Smothers and Raleek Brown last weekend during the come-from-behind win. Getting those players comfortable and in a rhythm on the ground should be an important cog for this Texas team, especially as the Longhorns prepare to enter the SEC portion of the schedule. Between the two, I think they rush for about 200 yards total, and this game eventually becomes very much out of reach.

The Texas defense should be very good from start to finish but could conceivably give up a score during the last few minutes of this contest. Defensive end Colin Simmons has been somewhat quiet the first couple of weeks, but this could be his breakout opportunity, notching a couple of sacks in the victory.
