Myles Garrett seemingly taught Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam a lesson he’s now used in another huge trade
The Myles Garrett trade was a huge decision for the Cleveland Browns to make. One that’s clearly taught owner Jimmy Haslam a lesson with how he operates his teams.
The Cleveland Browns’ trade of Myles Garrett was a huge decision that will be looked at years from now, depending on how it goes for both the Browns and the Los Angeles Rams.
Trading Garrett was a crucial move for the franchise, surely with the Haslam family’s green light to make it happen. Jimmy Haslam has been a very involved owner over the years in Cleveland, and it seems the big trade of Garrett has taught him a lesson he’s using elsewhere.
Jimmy Haslam’s latest move shows signs of Myles Garrett’s impact
The Haslam family owns 25 percent of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks and they operate much of the team. Monday night the Bucks made a blockbuster trade to send superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat. There have been signs for a couple of years now that Antetokounmpo was going to end up playing elsewhere, and it finally came to fruition.
According to Yahoo’s Kevin O’Connor, Haslam was a driving force in the Bucks accepting the trade with the Heat. The Boston Celtics were the other team in the mix and Haslam did not want to risk Jaylen Brown potentially wanting out of Milwaukee a year after the trade. It’s stated that the Browns’ owner wanted certainty with this NBA trade.
Antetokounmpo wanted out of Milwaukee and Garrett wanted out of Cleveland. When star players are disgruntled and want to be traded, it often ends up happening because the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. The Browns tried to patch up the relationship with Garrett a year ago when they gave him $120 million on a new contract. It only lasted a year before the Browns traded him.
It was said there was no trade request with Garrett this time around when the Browns sent him to the Rams, but his actions spoke otherwise. Staying away from the team, not meeting the new coach, and staying quiet about all things Browns had the signs on the wall.
The Haslam family has now had to deal with a couple of stars and the report of them now wanting Brown from the Celtics shows that they’re a bit timid now due to the moves they’ve had to make. Dealing with superstar athletes who make hundreds of millions in career earnings isn’t easy, especially when you own multiple major sports teams.
