Matt LaFleur shares promising Jordan Love update that gives Packers fans reason to believe in a strong season
Jordan Love won’t miss any game time
The Green Bay Packers started the week concerned, with Jordan Love needing a left thumb surgery after a minor injury suffered against the New York Jets was affecting his ability to hand the ball off. Surgery done on Tuesday, Love won’t play for the rest of the preseason, but head coach Matt LaFleur brought some promising updates before the joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts.
“Surgery went well, and he’s in great spirits,” LaFleur explained. “He’s here with us [at the joint practice]. Now, it’s just about putting in the work to get the thumb rehabbed.”
The injury isn’t a huge concern, and Jordan Love was always expected to be ready by Week 1 to face the Detroit Lions. As initially projected, Love should be able to practice next week, even though he shouldn’t play the preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks either. The Packers will also be cautious with his participation.
“I wouldn’t say right away,” LaFleur said, asked when Love would be able to throw after his practice return. “But we anticipate there will be some sort of participation next week.”
Jordan Love traveled to Indianapolis and was with the team for the joint practice with the Colts, even though he did not participate. The quarterback was spotted with a cast on his left hand.
Best possible outcome
The Packers are not concerned about Love’s availability for Week 1. But after how last season went, with multiple injuries and missed practice and game time, it’s especially valuable for Green Bay to give Love as much practice time as possible. With more than three weeks before the regular season opener, there’s enough time for Love to be back, fully healthy, and with a strong connection with his wide receivers.
In 2024, Love handled knee, groin, and elbow injuries throughout the season. He missed only two games, against the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans in Weeks 2 and 3, but was limited for long stretches.
