The Minnesota Vikings are going to be an intriguing team to keep an eye on in the 2025 NFL Draft, especially with what position they will prioritize.
The likely favorite right now is safety, as it's nearly 40% of all prospects sent to the Vikings have been at that position, and that number skyrockets when you add cornerbacks to the equation. They took extra time to look at a top prospect workout on Monday.
Vikings attend Will Johnson's workout
The Vikings have made cornerback a priority this draft cycle, having hosted some talented players on top-30 visits. They continued that trend on Monday by having assistant coach Daronte Jones attend Michigan cornerback Will Johnson's private workout, as he didn't do a workout at his pro day.
Johnson is a very talented cornerback who was widely viewed as a top ten prospect going into the 2024 season. However, things aren't quite the same anymore after he suffered a turf toe injury. I wrote this about Johnson in his scouting report.
Johnson is one of the better cornerbacks in the class. However, there are some concerns about how well he will translate to the next level. I have some real concerns about his recovery speed, but in a cover-3 heavy scheme, Johnson can thrive.
He also can thrive with the Vikings under defensive coordinator Brian Flores. His ability to recognize route concepts and adapt to receivers switching in open space. This is a player the Vikings could target, and they can ask his former teammate, J.J. McCarthy, about him.
He's got a lot of talent to him, but his relatively average testing paired with no 40-yard dash time are going to raise concerns for NFL teams.
Having Jones there on the ground is an important thing, as being able to see players live in person can help make things easier when it comes to making a decision.
Could the Vikings prioritize Johnson? With how Brian Flores has used his defense i nthe past, it's certainly a possibility.
