The New England Patriots are in the market for a veteran quarterback and there has been one name that has come up a lot over the past few days.

And that's sure to catch every Patriots fan's attention.

It was reported on Friday that New England has shown interest in free-agent quarterback Baker Mayfield, and it seems that those conversations have continued inside the building.

On Sunday, MassLive echoed this report, explaining that there is "internal support for Mayfield on several different levels in the Patriots organization."

However, because of the price tag Mayfield comes with, "it would be a shock to some in the organization if the Patriots aggressively pursued Mayfield in free agency."

The Athletic's Jeff Howe also posted about this possibility.

"Echoing others, the Patriots are very high on Baker Mayfield, sources have said. But I’d consider that one a long shot for a variety of reasons (Pats in position to draft a QB, Mayfield’s free agent contract, likely several other suitors, etc.). Never say never. Just not likely," Howe wrote.

Many of the new faces on the Patriots staff and in the front office have experience working with Mayfield, especially offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt and quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney who worked with him while with the Cleveland Browns.

Plus, if they can land Mayfield, they also have a chance at landing top free agent receiver Mike Evans. He made his feelings known about where he wants to go next.

"Just spoke with Mike Evans’ agent, @DerykGilmore, who says: “Mike wants to play with an elite quarterback in an offense that will showcase him — and be paid like a top wide receiver. He doesn’t want to play with a rookie QB. Winning a Super Bowl is a key priority.” Evans is expected to draw interest from several teams in free agency. @BleacherReport," Jordan Schultz reports

And it's no surprise that they need a solid receiver next season.

Along with bringing in a veteran quarterback, the team is expected to use the No. 3 overall pick on a rookie quarterback. And they have reportedly met with USC’s Caleb Williams, UNC’s Drake Maye LSU’s Jayden Daniels, Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, and Oregon’s Bo Nix at the NFL Scouting Combine.

But getting Mayfield would be a solid start. Yet, it doesn't seem very likely right now.
