2 winners and 4 losers from Eagles’ fourth-quarter collapse against Rams: The heat just got turned up on head coach Nick Sirianni

The Philadelphia Eagles sit at 2-2 after another fourth-quarter collapse against the Los Angeles Rams. Two players gave fans something to feel good about, and four others have plenty of explaining to do.

Just when you thought the Philadelphia Eagles were going to respond after last week, it happened again. For a while, it looked like they were running away with the game against the Los Angeles Rams, and then it all slipped away.

Philadelphia is now 2-2 and has dropped two in a row. There was some good in Sunday’s loss to the Rams, but there was a lot more bad. So let’s jump into this week’s Eagles winners and losers, starting with the bright spots.

Eagles winners from the loss to the Rams

WR Darius Cooper

Plenty of Eagles fans know about Cooper, but the general NFL viewing public probably had never heard of him before Sunday. That changed in a hurry.

Cooper made multiple spectacular catches and finished the day with two touchdowns. No AJ Brown, no problem, at least for Cooper. He and DeVonta Smith have both looked good over the last couple of weeks. The truth is, Cooper is one of the few bright spots on a Philly offense that doesn’t have many right now. We’ll get to that.

DB Cooper DeJean

DeJean came up with a great interception off Rams QB Matthew Stafford, and we all know what he brings to Philadelphia as that slot, nickel, and safety hybrid. The Eagles defense struggled in the second half, specifically in the fourth quarter, but that had little to do with DeJean. He’s your second and final winner.

Eagles losers from the loss to the Rams

DC Vic Fangio

Fangio was a loser last week, and unfortunately, he lands here again. The Eagles allowed 14 fourth-quarter points, and Fangio had zero answers for Kyren Williams.

Williams was out there looking like Le’Veon Bell. He had over 140 yards from scrimmage. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good football player. But this is a guy who ran a 4.7 in the 40-yard dash, and he isn’t exactly the biggest back either. He ran through, around, and over the Philadelphia defense, and no adjustment came to slow him down. It’s one thing to see Puka Nacua have the game he had; it’s another with Williams.

Kyren Williams stats vs. Eagles

  • 80 rushing yards
  • 2 rushing TDs
  • 10 receptions
  • 67 rushing yards

QB Jalen Hurts

You can’t throw for 93 yards. Hurts did connect on two touchdown passes, but in my opinion, those were more a reflection of Cooper than of Hurts. He finished 12-of-27 through the air, which is less than a 50% completion rate- 44%, to be exact. That simply isn’t good enough.

You might be wondering whether Hurts made up for it with his legs. He didn’t. He finished with fewer than 20 rushing yards, too. It was not a good game for Hurts by any means.

The Eagles offense

On top of Hurts’ struggles, the offense as a whole deserves a spot here. Philadelphia went 0-for-12 on third down. That’s not a bad day. That’s a systematic failure.

I don’t know exactly what needs to be fixed, but I do know who our final loser is.

HC Nick Sirianni

If Sirianni wasn’t feeling the heat after last week, he’s certainly feeling a rise in temperature now. His defense allowed 14 points in the fourth quarter while his offense put up nothing, and the result is back-to-back losses.

Here’s my main issue with how this is playing out. All the talk around this team has centered on changing coordinators, moving on from AJ Brown, and whether Hurts is the problem. The one thing that has remained constant through all of it is Sirianni.

The bottom line is this team, and more specifically this offense, has not looked good at all. Until that changes, the head coach is going to wear it.
